ATONAL CHORDS EXERCISE (2016)
Instrumentation: string quartet
I was introduced to a method of building chords that can be labelled ‘atonal’, and this exercise was a means of exploring their potential musical applications. The compositional results were vast considering the relatively meagre scope of this piece, and I include it here only because this method of building chords played a major role in my later, more ambitious works and that shows the kind of consistency and rigour of development that may well convince you that I am a serious composer.
